Multiplicity
Wednesday 11th February 2015
A creative collaboration: Chantal Francis, Ersin Han Ersin
Dancers: Chantal Francis, Tansie Swithenbank, Jade Montserrat
The piece explores the nature of digital technology as one that is as mutable as our own, playing a multiplicity of roles including; facilitating the opportunity for mankind to see and interact with ourselves and others as never before. Audiences are taken on a journey charting the evolution of this communication exchange through movement material which has its origins in gestural communication. The gestural communication including British Sign Language, acted as choreographic stimulus to tell a story of one person’s debut into the ‘intimate computing’ experiences of today, where the seemingly limitless flexibility of digital offerings allows us as humans to augment ourselves and our worlds.
Currently the piece is still work in progress, with the future view being to further expose the multiplicity of the human/digital relationship through the expansion of digital technology into the piece.

Audience feedback in response to Choreographic Clips by Chantal Francis
“Amazing. Really liked the choice of music that conjured a mood of digital and cerebral, and suited her physical language. Also liked her own vocal effects articulating the gestures. It will be interesting to see how such a physically demanding piece can be extended.”
“I loved the integration with sounds, the difference and diversity in the various parts, loved the beginning with the hand in combination with the light, it felt like the focus of the section.”
“Loved the quality of movement, the breaks in the track and the noises you made. The best bits were the strong shapes you made. Especially loved the shapes and sounds you made with your legs.”
“Fantastic, amazing. Immensely powerful. I loved the use of BSL.”
